RLSS UK TRAINER ASSESSOR (TA)

RLSS UK’s Trainer Assessor (TA) course enables candidates to become a Trainer Assessor and be responsible for the delivery of RLSS UK’s vocational qualifications throughout the UK and Ireland.

What is an RLSS UK Trainer Assessor (TA)

An RLSS UK Trainer Assessor (TA) is an individual who is qualified to deliver and assess RLSS UK qualifications. A TA can help train and assess other staff members in RLSS UK qualifications, and/or they can deliver RLSS UK qualifications to other businesses and/or the public.

Prerequisites to Become an RLSS UK TA

Every candidate attending a Trainer Assessor course must be:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Hold a current Licence to Operator Membership to the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK).
  • Hold a full qualification that matches the RLSS UK qualification that they wish to train others in (e.g. to become a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) Trainer Assessor, you must hold a full National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).

How do I become a Trainer Assessor (TA)
Step 1) Hold a full RLSS UK qualification that matches what you want to become a TA for (e.g. NPLQ).

To become a RLSS UK Trainer Assessor, candidates must first hold a full RLSS UK qualification matching the course they would like to become a Trainer Assessor for. For example, to become a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) Trainer Assessor, you must hold a full National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).

Step 2) Book the course.

Course content:

Days 1-3 = TA Core Qualification

Each candidate is required to complete a 3-day TA Core qualification which includes three modules and allows them to become a Probationary RLSS UK Trainer Assessor.

  • Module 1: Train the Trainer (1 day)
  • Module 2: Train the Assessor (1 day)
  • Module 3: CPR and AED (1 day)

Days 4+ = Qualification Specialism

Typically, Trainer Assessor courses are run to qualify candidates as new TAs in a particular course (e.g. NPLQ). You can easily become qualified as a TA for other qualifications/specialisms in the future and you don’t need to redo the TA Core qualification each time.

RLSS UK TA Core plus Specialism courses available and the extra delivery duration added to the TA Core qualification delivery period:

  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) Trainer Assessor course (2 days)
  • National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ) Trainer Assessor course (3 days)
  • National Water Safety Management Programme (NWSMP) Trainer Assessor course (2 days)
  • Open Water Lifeguard (OWL) Trainer Assessor course (1 day)

You can become a fully qualified Trainer Assessor in only one RLSS UK qualification specialism, you do not need to do all the qualifications on this list.

Our Open Water Lifeguard Qualification (OWL).

Courses are available for everyone with open water experience and also for qualified lifeguards.

Courses run from April through to October.

The Open Water Lifeguard (OWL) Qualification has been developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK to address the role of open water lifeguards and the needs of open water operators. This growing industry continues and RLSS UK have endeavoured to respond to change through the ongoing development of this qualification. The OWL qualification can be used to supervise and provide rescue cover for planned, organised and risk assessed activities in still, non-tidal water.

The Open Water Lifeguard qualification enables candidates with no previous lifeguard experience to become qualified.

By attaining this qualification candidates will have been assessed as competent to provide supervision and rescue cover for planned, organised and risk-assessed activities in open water still, non-tidal.

The Open Water Lifeguard Qualification, delivered over three days, is valid for two years and is independently assessed.

The candidate manual and trainer resources help the Open Water Lifeguard Trainer Assessor deliver through the three sections:

OWL COURSE CRITERIA

Section 1 - The Open Water Lifeguard, environment, hazards and supervision

Section 3 - CPR and First Aid

Once successfully obtained the OWL qualification can be used as a standalone qualification to supervise and provide rescue cover for planned, organised and risk assessed activities in still, non-tidal water.

The RPL Open Water Lifeguard Qualification, delivered over one day, is valid for two years and is independently assessed.
